  • This native perennial grows very tall on thick, square stems.

  • Its leaves emerge opposite one another and held very close to the stem, creating a small cup that fills with water after every rain.

  • It produces a multitude of small yellow flowers in summer, followed by seedheads that are highly valued by goldfinches.
