Salix purpurea ‘Nana’
Dwarf Purple Willow
This mid-sized shrub is native to Europe and Asia.
Grows best in full sun and moist to wet soil. It can struggle in hot summer weather.
Produces small purple catkins in early spring.
Young stems are purplish in color and mature to gray.
Although it is not native, it can host the Viceroy caterpillar. However, it has been reported as invasive in several states and should be avoided. Choose a native willow instead.
Deer resistant.
