Salix purpurea ‘Nana’
Dwarf Purple Willow

  • This mid-sized shrub is native to Europe and Asia.

  • Grows best in full sun and moist to wet soil. It can struggle in hot summer weather.

  • Produces small purple catkins in early spring.

  • Young stems are purplish in color and mature to gray.

  • Although it is not native, it can host the Viceroy caterpillar. However, it has been reported as invasive in several states and should be avoided. Choose a native willow instead.

  • Deer resistant.
