Rubus occidentalis
Jewel Black Raspberry
Grows well in sun or shade, in dry or moist conditions.
Forms rambling colonies of arching, thorn-covered canes.
Drought tolerant, but fruit may not develop without proper rainfall.
Flavorful black berries can be eaten raw or baked into pies and jams.
Tea made from raspberry leaves was traditionally used to treat menstrual cramps.
Horticulturist’s Notes: Black Raspberry needs regular pruning to stay productive. After fruiting, cut canes to the ground to encourage next year’s growth.
