Rubus occidentalis
Jewel Black Raspberry

  • Grows well in sun or shade, in dry or moist conditions.

  • Forms rambling colonies of arching, thorn-covered canes.

  • Drought tolerant, but fruit may not develop without proper rainfall.

  • Flavorful black berries can be eaten raw or baked into pies and jams.

  • Tea made from raspberry leaves was traditionally used to treat menstrual cramps.

  • Horticulturist’s Notes: Black Raspberry needs regular pruning to stay productive. After fruiting, cut canes to the ground to encourage next year’s growth.
