Staghorn Sumac
Staghorn sumac is a native shrub that will spread to form large colonies.
Its crooked stems can grow up to 25 feet tall and their tips are covered in a downy red fur.
Large cones of red flowers form in early summer, followed by long-lasting fruit that is covered in a similar fur.
Compound leaves turn brilliant red in fall.
Grows well in full sun and a wide range of soil conditions, sometimes growing too well and becoming weedy.
Tolerant of urban conditions and drought.
