Rhus aromatica
Fragrant Sumac
Fragrant sumac is an extremely hardy native shrub that grows like a rambling groundcover through root suckers.
It can reach up to 6 feet tall but popular cultivars remain much shorter.
Its aromatic green foliage turns scarlet and purple in fall and its long-lasting red berries are popular with wildlife.
It prefers full sun to part shade and well-drained soil.
Deer resistant and tolerant of drought and urban conditions.
