Lycoris squamigera
Surprise Lily

  • An Asian bulb that goes by many names, Surprise Lily has an unusual growth habit. It produces strappy foliage in early spring, about the same time as daffodils are emerging. These leaves die back, then in late summer, tall naked stalks of giant pink trumpet-shaped flowers appear.

  • Prefers full sun to part shade and rich, well-drained soil.

  • Drought tolerant and deer resistant.
