Eastern Redcedar, Southwest Ohio’s true native evergreen, is a large shrub or mid-sized tree with a shaggy, somewhat wild appearance.
It has fragrant red bark and sharp blue-green needles.
Female trees produce waxy blue berries that are popular with songbirds, especially the Cedar Waxwing.
Needs full sun and well-drained soil but is highly adaptable to tough and infertile conditions.
Deer resistant, drought tolerant and tolerant of urban conditions.
