Juniperus horizontalis ‘Wiltonii’
Blue Rug Juniper
This trailing, low-growing evergreen makes an excellent groundcover.
This cultivar’s silvery blue needles look nice in rock gardens or spilling over stone walls.
It grows best in full sun in sandy, well-drained soil.
Not a true Ohio native, its natural range is north along the waterfronts of Maine and Canada.
Drought tolerant and deer resistant.
Juniper berries have a variety of traditional medicinal uses and are the core flavoring component of gin. They can be infused into a tea or used to flavor meat and baked goods.
Juniper ash was also used in the preparation of corn by native tribes in the southwest.
