Julie is responsible for maintaining the grounds of the Hauck Botanic Garden. As the horticulturalist, a typical day in her life may include working with volunteers in the garden beds, documenting plant growth, propagating new native perennials, leading grounds tours, repairing equipment, weeding, watering and everything in between.

Julie’s entire life has revolved around plants, nature and the great outdoors. She spent her childhood climbing trees, picking berries and catching frogs in northern Ohio, then went on to earn a degree in Horticulture from Cincinnati State while working at an urban farm. After a few years volunteering for a local community garden and trying her hand at a little backyard homesteading, she struck out on a solo road trip in a Chevy Astro van to hike and camp in National Parks across the country. After living in New Mexico for a year, she returned home to Cincinnati in 2020 and started her own garden design and consulting business to help people interested in native plants transform their yards. On whatever path Julie walks, she is guided by a passion for adventure, challenge and discovery.

Joining the CGC team feels like a dream job to Julie. She says the best part is having the chance to learn from others who share her passions and make a positive impact on her environment and community. In her free time, Julie loves working in her own garden, listening to country music and taking weekend getaways to the family cabin with her husband Dave and their dog.
