We're seeking volunteer facilitators for our Green Teens Field Study program serving high school students in grades 9-12.
What is a Green Teens Field Study?
Our field study is a hands-on enrichment experience offered to schools participating in the Green Teens Challenge, our year-long STEM-based competition for high school students. Each month, schools complete themed sustainability challenges in hopes of winning a prize at the end of the school year. Field studies give students and educators a chance to explore sustainability topics more deeply through interactive learning at our Green Learning Station and in our gardens.
What will I be doing?
Facilitators lead students through the field study stations, which include Soil-Free Farming, Natural Plant Dyes, Vegetation Survey, Dream & Design, Plant Pathology and Sustainable Energy. Each two-hour field study includes three stations that vary based on the season.
Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for volunteers who have a passion for outdoor and environmental education and some experience working with high schoolers. Expertise in each subject area is not required, though! We will provide an orientation training to equip volunteers with the knowledge and confidence to lead their station.
What’s the time commitment?
Field studies run on Thursdays from 10am-12pm beginning in September. We may occasionally hold a session on another day of the week if necessary to accommodate an interested school. We are still finalizing dates with schools and will share them with facilitators as soon as we have them. Volunteers are asked to arrive 30 minutes early to help set up.
Do I have to attend every date?
An ideal volunteer would be available for multiple dates, but you do NOT need to help with every session.
What else should I know?
Background checks are required for volunteer facilitators. If you are interested in volunteering but can’t make the training, we encourage you to reach out and we will try to make accommodations!
