Corylus americana
American Hazelnut

  • A large shrub that grows well in a variety of conditions, quickly forming thickets. Regular pruning will help reduce tangled branches.

  • Flowers are wind pollinated and require multiple plants nearby to produce nuts.

  • Nuts can be roasted and eaten or ground into flour. They have a higher nutritional value than acorns or beechnuts and were also traditionally made into soup.
