Flavors!
By Kymisha Montgomery, CGC Urban Agriculture Coordinator
Although I love the bounty of every season, there is nothing like the summertime favorites, and the reason is that we can only have them for a few short months. Now that our summer gardening season has wrapped up, it’s time to celebrate! Holding our annual end-of-the-season party, Flavors of the Garden, is our way of showing our appreciation by gathering to enjoy the fruits of our labor. It’s a fun event that brings community and backyard gardeners together to share our passion for gardening over carefully curated dishes and desserts.
Tending a garden all seasons requires a great deal of time and effort, from planting and watering to battling the weeds, and this party is a celebratory "last hurrah" to recognize all that hard work before the season ends. It’s our way of celebrating each other!
Jam made from fresh apples grown at our Camp Washington Community Garden…purple stir-fried long beans courtesy of our North Pleasant Street Community Garden…potato aloo made with kale from the onsite CGC garden…chocolate butternut squash brownies created by our Loveland Community Garden…it was a delicious event! The standout of the evening was the red shiso lemonade, also courtesy of the North Pleasant Street Community Garden. It was a blast and a wonderful farewell to summer!
