Asclepias tuberosa
Butterflyweed

  • Butterflyweed grows much shorter than other milkweed varieties- only 1-3 feet tall.

  • It produces orange flowers in summer.

  • Prefers full sun and dry, poor soil.

  • It often grows better on roadsides than in the garden, however it has become a popular landscape plant. It has a deep tap root and does not transplant well.

  • Milkweed is the only food source for monarch caterpillars.

  • Drought tolerant and deer resistant.
