Asclepias tuberosa
Butterflyweed
Butterflyweed grows much shorter than other milkweed varieties- only 1-3 feet tall.
It produces orange flowers in summer.
Prefers full sun and dry, poor soil.
It often grows better on roadsides than in the garden, however it has become a popular landscape plant. It has a deep tap root and does not transplant well.
Milkweed is the only food source for monarch caterpillars.
Drought tolerant and deer resistant.
