Apocynum cannabinum
Indian Hemp
Also called dogbane, this native perennial grows aggressively to form large colonies in sunny, moist sites.
It can reach 5 feet tall and produces tiny white flowers in mid-summer.
Flowers are attractive to butterflies and other pollinators.
Indian hemp is highly poisonous but it was once commonly used for medicinal reasons and its fibrous stems were traditionally used to make rope.
Drought tolerant and deer resistant.
