Dwarf Red Buckeye
This small understory tree can spread quickly through suckers to form dense thickets.
It is native to the southeastern U.S. and marginally hardy in the Cincinnati area.
Grows best in part shade and moist, rich soil.
Produces large, showy pink clusters of fragrant flowers that are loved by pollinators.
Classic shiny brown buckeye nuts follow. Nuts are not edible.
Dwarf buckeye loses its leaves early in the season and can often look unhealthy by late summer.
Deer resistant.
