Dwarf Red Buckeye

  • This small understory tree can spread quickly through suckers to form dense thickets.

  • It is native to the southeastern U.S. and marginally hardy in the Cincinnati area.

  • Grows best in part shade and moist, rich soil.

  • Produces large, showy pink clusters of fragrant flowers that are loved by pollinators.

  • Classic shiny brown buckeye nuts follow. Nuts are not edible.

  • Dwarf buckeye loses its leaves early in the season and can often look unhealthy by late summer.

  • Deer resistant.
