Treeforestation: Invasive Plants & Native Replacements

Tuesday, October 29th, 6-7:30pm

Instructor: Greg Torres, CGC Horticulturist

Cost: $15 (free for CGC volunteers)

Want to learn more about our Treeforestation project and the importance of preserving our native ecosystems? Join CGC horticulturist, Greg Torres, for this class all about invasive removal and native replacements. We kicked off a new project at the CGC last year: Treeforestation. Many of Cincinnati’s green spaces are overrun with invasive plants. As more and more ash trees come down, thinning our tree canopy, there is increasingly more room for invasive species (Japanese honeysuckle, Japanese knotweed, Garlic Mustard) to expand and exclude our native plants and animals. We started this reforestation project to save and protect Cincinnati’s green spaces. We’ve been having monthly workdays at tour first Treeforestation site, Walnut Woods, clearing it of invasive plants, paving a trail through it, with first planting of native plants scheduled for October 26th.
