Create a monarch habitat in your own yard, while adding beauty, minimizing water use, and reducing lawn maintenance costs. This class will help you choose the best plants for monarchs for your garden. Host plants for monarch caterpillars and monarch adults will be covered.

We’re pleased to announce that Civic Garden Center is teaming up with Cincinnati Nature Center to co-promote in-person classes to help you make your space more useful for wildlife and more beautiful for you. Please pay close attention to this class location as this takes place at Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati.

VOLUNTEER: Civic Garden Center Workday @ Civic Garden Center

Join CGC horticultural staff in working on our grounds, Hauck Botanic Gardens. Volunteers will help with garden maintenance including planting, weeding, pruning, mulching, seed collecting and more! Please bring a reusable water bottle, gloves (if you have them), and a mask, pants and long sleeves are encouraged. All other tools and materials will be provided.

This is a field-oriented, introductory course in botany with an emphasis on plant identification. Participants will learn the essential skills to identify, name and share information about native and exotic plants in the local environment.

Join the flower expert, Christina Matthews, in the garden for an evening of cutting and arranging flower bouquets. Participants will learn some tricks and tips for everything from cutting the flowers to making the perfect arrangement. Each participant will get to take home a vase of flowers, all materials costs are included in the price of the class.

Join the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for an evening of music in Hauck Botanic Gardens. The musicians will be playing at the circle patio in the middle of the park. Please bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on. This event is free and open to the public, please reach out to info@civicgardencenter.org with any questions.

CLASS: Ice Blue Indigo Dye Making @ Civic Garden Center

CLASS: Ice Blue Indigo Dye Making @ Civic Garden Center | Cincinnati | Ohio | United States

In this class we will harvest Indigo plant from our grounds, make a dye from the leaves, prepare silk with several shibori resist techniques and dye our designs.

This class will last 2-3 hours and provide participants with hands-on experience making dyes. Each participant will be provided with a small cloth to dye a design, additional materials can be purchased from the instructor during the class. No prior experience is needed, dye makers of all skill levels are welcome!

NOTE: This class is limited to 12 participants.
