Sustainability at School

The Civic Garden Center’s Green Learning Station offers a field study and curriculum geared towards middle and high school students that turns students into scientists, designers, and advocates. But what do you do when the field trip is over and you're back at your school?

Taking action means understanding how your school impacts the environment. For instance:

  • What happens to the trash you throw in the lunchroom trash can?

  • What can you recycle at your school?

  • What do the landscaping crews do with the leaves and grass clippings they collect?

  • How many lights are left on when rooms are empty?

  • How much rain flows off your school’s campus into the sewers?

  • Are there any student gardens?

  • Where does the food in your cafeteria come from?

  • How much food gets thrown away every day?

How many of the answers do you already know? And how many can you find out?
