History

In 2003 the garden was first built as a beatification project in a park on the site of one of several abandoned buildings that occupied W. 8th from Urban Appalachian Council to the bank at the corner of State Street.  A variety of gardening projects have done well there and in the adjoining city-owned lot.  In 2011 a community/pantry garden was added with the help of neighbors and Americorps interns.  During 2012 the gardeners grew over 500 pounds of fruit and vegetables.
