NEXUS Garden
History
The N.E.X.U.S. Community Garden (Norwood-Evanston-Xavier Urban Sustainability) is located on Xavier University’s campus and is a partnership between Xavier University students, faculty, and staff and Norwood and Evanston community members. Built in the spring of this year, the NEXUS Community Garden is a unique project aimed at engaging Norwood and Evanston residents alongside Xavier University students, faculty, and staff to grow food, learn about sustainable living, and build community on common ground. The garden's design and implementation is the work of the Garden Steering Committee, made up of 14 committed members from the three communities. NEXUS is grateful to the following offices and organizations for their generous support: Urban Harvest, Al Neyer, Inc., Women of Excellence Giving Circle, ENX Advisory Board, Evans Landscaping, Xavier University Peace & Justice Programs, and Physical Plant. Molly Robertshaw, the garden coordinator, and Jessica Stavole, student Garden Club President, are graduates of the Civic Garden Center’s 2009-10 Community Garden Development Training program.
