Green Learning Station
Groundbreaking
The Civic Garden Center has broken ground on a new environmental education program, the Green Learning Station. We are transforming our lot at Oak and Reading (a former gas station) into a hands-on learning laboratory. Students and adults will discover how to apply sustainable practices to their gardens and the systems (water, waste, soil) that support them, with a strong focus on growing healthy food and keeping storm water where it falls.
Starting next spring, the site will be open to the public for tours, classes and exploration, and will host inquiry-based field trips for middle and high school students.
First Lady, Frances Strickland helped us kick off our long awaited sustainable gardening and storm water learning laboratory. The official Groundbreaking took place on April 30, 2010 at 5:30 pm - just prior to the Preview Party for the 50th Anniversary of the Plant, Herb & Hosta Sale.
