Green Learning Station Field Trips

Grades 7-12
The Green Learning Station at the Civic Garden Center is home to a hands-on field trip for students to learn about green solutions to common urban environmental issues. Trained guides lead small groups of students through the site, facilitating discussion and engaging students in group-problem solving and scientific inquiry at four stations:

• Don’t Throw the Nutrients Out with the Trash (composting)
• Growing Food in the City (vegetable garden)
• Urban Water Cycles (green roofs)
• Leaky Pavement (pervious pavement)

Back in school, your students choose a topic of focus: stormwater, food systems or waste. The follow-up curriculum engages students in project based learning to improve the school’s sustainability. Students conduct research, develop a plan, advocate and take action, while building critical STEM skills.

Group size: up to 40 students with 4 chaperones.
Cost: FREE, even the bus!
Scheduling: Wednesdays & Thursdays March-May and September-October. For more information visit our field trip page.
