Part-time Summer Intern for

Facility Grounds and Neighborhood Gardens

This is a part-time position (15-20 hours per week) for the summer of 2008. Duties include assisting the Horticulturist, Neighborhood Gardens Coordinator and Youth Education Coordinator by:

 

  • Organizing class materials and lesson plans for hands-on gardening activities for Summer Sprouts Program
  • Assisting other staff members in teaching gardening lessons to youth and adults
  • Assisting with maintenance of the Children’s gardens, Neighborhood Gardens and Civic Garden Center grounds.  This includes all aspects of garden care such as design, maintenance, and plant record keeping activities.

 Qualified applicants:

  • Must be able to lift at least fifty pounds, perform outside work duties, and bending and lifting tasks
  • Demonstrate comfort in using power tools
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with adults and children of various ages and backgrounds
  • Be comfortable working in low to moderate income neighborhoods
  • Have some gardening/horticulture experience
  • Be able to work effectively in an environment requiring the ability to multi-task
  • Show willingness to work flexible hours, including some weekends
