Jim Goethel - Turned Bowls Exhibit

June 2-30, 2008

This is the second exhibit that Mr. Goethel is presenting at CGC.  His bowls, candle sticks and other items are artistically turned on a lathe and hand finished.  Mr. Goethel uses a variety of woods to create his unique objects of art as well as functional pieces.  These hand crafted items are for sale and a portion of the sale benefits CGC!

Orchid Society Seminar

July 12, 2008

The objective of the seminar is to bring speakers and plants into our area that we do not normally see at the shows in our region. Glenn Decker of Piping Rock Orchids will speak on Phrag. kovachiii and its hybrids and George Hatfield of Ventura CA will speak  on Cymbidiums. Morning lectures focus on recent breeding trends and the afternoons sessions  on culture.  Plant sales start at 9AM and is limited to the two speakers.  Additionally, there is a noon auction of orchids and orchid related items donated to the Cincinnati Judging Center. Ikebana International Exhibition

Fans of August”

An Ikebana International Exhibition on Thursday and Friday, August 7-8 2008,

at the Civic Garden Center, 2715 Reading Road, Cincinnati. Workshop on Friday only.

 

Ikebana is the art of Japanese flower arranging. Visit this unique exhibit and enjoy Japanese culture, with a focus on fans. Japanese fans are the theme for the hottest month of the summer season. You can be sure we will be cool indoors! 

In Japan, fans are used by both men & women throughout the hot summer months.  Fans are used in Japanese dance and traditional theatre.  See how fans and their designs inspire our ikebana exhibition. This is a great opportunity to “create on 8-8-08!”

August 7, Thursday – Opening: “Fans of August” Ikebana International Annual Exhibition

The morning includes a special viewing of the DVD of Tokyo Ninth World Convention 2006. Stunning Dramatic Ikebana Designs that will surely inspire!

August 8, Friday - Ikebana "Fans of August" Workshop

Instructor: Moto Ikebana Sensei  Brenda Baird

10:30 am Radial Fan Design Workshop (about1 hour for the lesson)

Ikebana hands on workshop on the 8th month, 8th day, and in the year of 08.

Fee of $25 includes fresh flowers and color drawing. Proceeds support the CGC.

Details: Participants will create a fan shaped, radial ikebana design

Bring: Container/single bowl to hold a kenzan (pinholder), flower cutters and optional bucket to transport the arrangement home.

Note: Kenzan/pinholders can be purchased that day.
