Sandy Stephens enrolled in
the Community Garden Development Training series in 2003. He wanted
to convert the vacant lot that he owned into a community garden.
On April 4, the Neighborhood Gardens Kick Off day, volunteers equipped
with chain saws and hand saws, started clearing the lot. With the
help of CGC staff and 27 Cincinnati Bell Pioneers, on June 5, 2004
a community garden was created. Chain link fencing was salvaged
from the Columbia YMCA slated for demolition. A greenhouse was donated
by the Freestore Foodbank. Money for raised beds was subsidized
by funds generated by neighborhood kids collecting aluminum cans.
The greenhouse is for all Greater
Cincinnati Community Gardeners to use. Gardeners can get a jump
start on spring by starting seedlings in the Albion greenhouse,
and greens can be grown well into winter. For more photo galleries,

In 2006, the Landscape
Construction Class from Cincinnati State Technical and Community
College built an arbor and installed a paver sidewalk.
